Is it possible for rainwater to get into your fuel tank? Short answer: yes. That’s exactly what happened to this 27′ Leisure Cat while sitting unused for 3 years.
This water contamination risk occurs when water puddles on top of the fuel tank surface and has nowhere to go. Frequently the water puddles at the sender unit location and if the gasket is bad on the sender unit, guess where the water goes? Yep, right into the tank.
Please consider the possibility of water contamination if your boat has sat for an extended period of time. We see this problem a lot, and many times we find 5 to 10 gallons of water contamination as a result. Fortunately, we are able to remedy this problem with our air powered fuel cleaning machines.
Note: Be very careful when working with gasoline yourself. Our equipment is air powered for a reason – we don’t want any explosions occurring!
